It’s one of those most racist self-indulgent arrogant thing I’m uncomfortable with.
How do they expect they can take care of a child of color if they haven’t fuilly figured out white privilege or stuff with their adult friends of color?
I’ve seen TV soaps and heard stories where white couples (queer and not) say they want a non-white child because they don’t believe in racism or they want to ‘give the child a new world’ or ‘the skin tone combination would be sooo cuute / they will have the best of both worlds!’ (I’ve been guilty of this)
Poor kid is going to grow up ‘not seeing race’ eventhough its blatantly fucking obvious he/she is the only one in their family who is of a diferent race and will experience childhood differently to how a white kid experiences childhood, no matter the background the child grows up in.
I can’t.

99% of the time they just don’t get it :/ I was reading the blog of this girl who was a trans-racial adoptee—she recounted this story of how her dad had given her a license plate that said “Oriental Express” on her 16th bday & didn’t think twice :/

I agree that it’s pretty fucked up for white people to adopt a non-white child in a self-congratulatory, white-savior-y way, but what about the fact that it is statistically way harder for non-white foster kids to find homes at all?

my mum was adopted by white people.. and her army brat upbringing, i think, was the only thing that made her as worldly as she is. i’d worry that babies with rich cultures would lose them and instead be whitewashed by white parents, too.. :\
